" MY '99 Cougar has been in the shop about 8 times, and the problems are still there. The check engine light comes on,then the car sputters and shakes, and a burnt exaust smell can be noticd after that. Also the brakes are messed up too. They make a really bad grinding noise whenever I apply the brakes to stop.Even certain parts like the doors and dash board simply aren't put together well. They make sqeaking/rattling noises like if they were put together loosely. This car is just plain horrible.I heard similar experiences from other people with 99 Cougars.Because of this,I will never buy a Ford/Mercury car again. They just aren't made well. Before that,I had a 99 Mustang GT for like a week and found out later that the car needed a new engine, thats how I ended up with the Cougar-I can't believe that these are actually new cars!!"
