Toyota's legendary reliability is still a reason to buy but many other makes have improved and can compete. The Camry has fallen behind the times a little bit because of its conservative styling and handling. The Solara is Toyota's attempt to add some zest to the Camry. NP bought the new Solara based upon her positive experience with a 1989 Toyota Corolla. NP has 16,500 miles so far so she is quite acquianted with her Solara and so far everything has been great. In fact, if the seats were a slightly more comfortable NP would have given the Solara a perfect score. The V6 power is more than adequate in every situation. The handling is exceptional. Braking and transmission received top marks. NP even thinks the Solara's cabin is quieter than a 1990 Mercedes Benz 190e and a 1994 Lexus ES-Class she rides in often. Pretty good competition. NP's only complaint is relatively minor although it is worth noting. She has notced that the roof channels are not very deep. Consequently, in heavy rains she gets a lap full of water. Other than that no complaints and an excellent review for a very competent vehicle. Overall Rating:
