The first of the "pocket rockets" the Golf continues to provide excellent handling and good performance. KS' Golf received strong marks in categories it is expected to perform well. KS gave his Golf top marks for city and highway handling. KS gave "good" but not top marks for acceleration and passing. It did get top marks for hill climbing confirming the Golf has plenty of torque when necessary. KS also gave the vehicle strong marks for interior appointments such as comfort, heater and storage. The Golf's ride is good in the city but on the highway KS gave it a "disagree" rating indicating the suspension is probably rather stiff. Braking got top marks and the transmission was given "good" scores. VW's Golf and Jetta models have had their reliability problems in the past, but after 18,200 miles KS has no problems to report.
