RV is very pleased with his Ford Explorer. His previous vehicle was an older Jeep Cherokee. He recently took a trip to the mountains and commented on how much more comfortable this vehicle is. The leather and CD stereo do not hurt. He found loading and unloading with the rear hatch window was convenient. Temperatures in the valley reached 106 and the air conditioner worked flawlessly. With one child the split rear seat added needed cargo space. RV installed a bike rack to the trailer hitch which worked "with aplomb." All in all he says he "loves it" with emphasis on the Ford 0.9% financing on a four year loan. No trouble spots were mentioned.

If every car and truck were perfect, there would be nothing to talk about. There are lemons and NJ's Ford Explorer has been a problem. NJ gave his Explorer the lowest, or next lowest scores in almost every single category. Low points for NJ's Explorer are dependability and fit and finish. The high points, if there were any, are for seating comfort and ventilation. To be honest, and NJ certainly was, he is very unhappy with his Ford. His vehicle has only 83,000 miles and he has had a myriad of problems. He mentions problems with alignment, the fuel pump, the radio, exhaust, body integrity, ball joints, and axle. He also mentions problems with the electrical system and the windshield wiper motor,. Quite an exhaustive list. The moral of the story is if you buy used be careful. If you buy new, consider past performance carefully, but remember a manufacturer can turn itself around. Has Ford?

Owner's Comments:

"I bought my Ford Explorer new. I've done basic maintenance. My Explorer has been reliable. I have done a lot of off-road and driving in snow. The only repairs have been wheel alignment, which requires annual adjustment."
