The Mitsubishi Montero Sport is Mitsubishi's smaller version of the tall and boxy Montero. MG has put 30,000 miles on his Montero so he knows his vehicle well. Overall, the vehicle scored well, but never exceptionally. In fact, in almost every category MG gave the rating "agree", rather than "strongly agree." MG has had one repair, a problem with the throttle body. Exemplary if that has been the only problem. However, MG was frustrated, for good reason, because Mitsubishi does not offer a vehicle lending program. MG gave the Mitsubishi good scores but overall he would not recommend the vehicle. Mitsubishi's entry into the mid-sized sports utility market is the Montero Sport. The Sport's claim to fame might be its ability to offer a truck for everyone. Low priced 2-wheel drive models might be priced in the low $20s. A completely outfitted Sport could cost in the low $30s. LA of San Ramon, CA has the XLS with nearly every option. LA gave his Sport generally very good marks. LA comments that it is a great truck which "needs refinement." He found the gearing and weight ratio was not optimal. The Sport's 3.0 liter engine, which is larger than some competitors, is somewhat underpowered according to LA. Road handling is adequate, but could be better. LA's comments are consistent with his survey marks. LA gave below-average marks for acceleration and passing. On the other hand, there were some strong scores for ride and quiet interior. He also noted that the car is easy to drive and gave it strong marks for handling. Importantly, LA has 18,500 miles on his new Montero and it has been trouble-free so far. Overall Rating:
