The Maxima has a horsepower increase for 2000 but we wonder whether that was really necessary. The 1997 version has, according to BKM, a "terrific engine." BKM's Maxima is a pleasure to drive on short and long-distance trips. The vehicle is roomy and comfortable. The gauges are unique and easy to read. The gauges reverse color for day and night so the gauges are always easy to read. Another strong quality is the crisp BOSE sound system. BKM does mention some concerns, such as exposed wires in the trunk which get in the way when loading. According to BKM's husband, driving position is not optimal as the seats are too low. Other than the few concerns, BKM loves her Maxima. She gave her vehicle top ratings in nearly every category. For categories BKM did not give her Maxima the highest score, she gave it the next highest marks. Overall, a strong rating for an exceptional vehicle.
