GD test drove several trucks before purchasing his 1999 Silverado. He learned this is the most powerful truck availble. He has easily hauled over 1/2 ton in the bed. He is also very pleased with the handling noting that even for its heft, "handling is great." GD has the third door which really makes this truck spacious. Although the seats are generally comfortable, GD notes on long trips the seats get a little harder. The truck is generally solid, although the truck has developed several rattles. The rattles have been in the dashboard and some bolts came loose in the door. The third door also squeaks over bumps. For a truck, the Silverado is quiet but there is some wind "whistling" at 70 mph. GD also had to replace the light in the engine compartment because the switch was faulty. The rear end had some work all covered under warranty. Body moulding around the driver's window warped. Finally, the truck has stalled once coming off the freeway but so far the problem has not repeated. GD feels, even with the minor problems, this is an exemplary truck. Overall Rating:

"Rides better than most same year trucks, has 1 step up payload capacity, towing package which included rear heavy duty gas shocks and transmission cooler. Truck has 350- great engine. Throttle body injection. 3.42 ratio limited slip rear end (stock). Truck handles heat very well, always runs cool. Engine has run perfectly and has never required any service other than regular and frequent oil changes. Does not burn oil. Have towed light trailers with no trouble at all. Love this truck."
