Dodge Dakota competes in a class with lots of players, foreign and domestic. In many ways, the Dakota is a class leader in size, room and available power. DB survey response confirms this. His Dakota has a 3.9 V6, the first step up from the smalled engine available, the V4. He is pleased with the power giving the vehicle next to best marks for accelaration, passing and hill climbing. Handling received the same strong scores, as did the brakes. The Dakota's shortcomings seem to be limited to the transmission. DB remarked that the transmission gave out at only 25,500 miles; hopefully, fixed under warranty. Otherwise, DB gave strong, consistent scores across the board.

The Dakota is a fine pickup truck. CF has put 11,300 miles on his truck. He has been impressed. His only complaint has been gas mileage. He gets about 15/17 which CF says is "a little skimply for a V-6." CF's review is informative because he has owned several other pickup trucks in this class. CF has owned a Ford Rangerand Nissan. He thought both trucks were "excellent" but the Dakota's "ride, handling, interior space and acceleration is far superior." He indicates this is an "outstanding truck" all the way around.
