 2000 Ford Contour

1,000 mi

5sp, stereo, CD, power seats

The Ford Contour is designed to be a sports sedan. It has special handling characteristics and a V-6 option is available. However, it is priced thousands less than other sports sedans. WW is pleased with his Contour. He notes "this is a driver's car for people who enjoy driving a BMW alternative." Although WW did not give his Contour a perfect score, it was darn close. The only categories in which WW did not give his Contour perfect marks were for storage space, highway noise, wind noise and size. However, WW did not mark down his Contour too much in those categories and gave it "agrees" which are the next best score. Strong scores for a great sports sedan alternative.

Owner's Comments:

"The cup holders in the Contour are nice if you are the driver or the person sitting in the back seat. The holder for the front passenger though is TOO short for any drink (even a can of soda ). The cardboard that covers the spare tire isn't strong enough to hold the weight of groceries. A loaf of bread, but not a gallon of milk or any two liters. This sinks easily after having weight on it. Over all I like my Contour. I feel safe in it and feel I get good gas mileage, handles well and has a comfortable ride. I even bought a '99 model for my wife to drive our daughter around in, as it's much better than her '97 Escort."

Owner's Comments:

"My wife and I are delighted with the car, especially considering the price. Even our cat likes it."

Trouble-free: No - "We have had one slight problem--it looks like rust is developing on the exterior of the door locks, right where the key slides in. Its probably not a big deal, but it's annoying that a new car would do that."
